CDF-FUNDED MORTUARY UNIT COMMISSIONED AT KASAMA GENERAL HOSPITAL

Kasama Municipal Council has today commissioned a new Mortuary Unit at Kasama General Hospital, funded under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Disaster Management Component. The facility, valued at K1,390,000, was jointly financed by Kasama Central and Lukashya Constituencies and has a capacity of twenty-four (24) bodies

Officiating at the commissioning on behalf of the Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bernard Mpundu, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Beauty Undi Phiri noted that the mortuary is a critical public health and social service facility that will support hospital operations, emergency response, and disaster management while preserving dignity for the departed and providing comfort to bereaved families.

Ms. Phiri commended Kasama Municipal Council, CDF Committees, and all stakeholders for the transparent and effective utilization of CDF resources. She further highlighted the progress being recorded in the district through CDF-funded projects, including recently commissioned schools and road equipment.

In her opening remarks, Acting Town Clerk Mrs. Catherine N. Kavungu reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to prudent and transparent use of CDF resources for the benefit of the people.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor, Hon Felix K. Kangwa, speaking on behalf of the Mayoralty and Councillorship, described the facility as timely and critical, especially in strengthening public health preparedness. He urged hospital management to ensure proper maintenance and professional operation of the mortuary unit so that it continues to serve the community with dignity and compassion.

The project is expected to significantly enhance health service delivery and ensure dignified handling of the deceased in Kasama District and the Northern Province at large.
