SIX CANDIDATES SUCCESSFULLY FILE FOR KASAMA MAYORAL SEAT
Six candidates yesterday successfully filed their nominations to contest the Kasama Mayoral Seat ahead of the forthcoming by-election scheduled for 29th January, 2026.
The mayoral seat fell vacant following the death of former Kasama Mayor, Her Worship Theresa Kolala, who passed away on 5th December, 2025.
The filing of nominations took place yesterday, Tuesday 30th December at the Kasama Municipal Council Chamber, where candidates presented their credentials before the Kasama District Electoral Officer, Mr Innocent Mutambo.
The first candidate to file was Mr Aaron Zimba of the Citizens First (CF) Party.
He was followed by Mr Joseph Mubanga of the Socialist Party (SP). The third candidate was Mr Peter Chikweti, representing the Tonse Alliance and standing on the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) ticket.
The fourth candidate to file was the UPPZ candidate, while the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) was represented by Mr Bywell Simposya, who also successfully filed his nomination.
The final candidate to file before the close of nominations at 17:00 hours was Ms Mary Bukisa of the New Focus Party, who is the only female candidate in the race.
Meanwhile, Ms Maggie Lombe, an independent aspirant, and the Leadership Movement Party failed to file their nominations by the time the returning officer officially closed the nomination process.
The Kasama Municipal Council wishes all successfully nominated candidates a peaceful and issue-based campaign period as the district prepares for the upcoming polls.
