DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVE: 

To create an environment that is devoid of Public Health hazards thereby prolonging life.

THE DIRECTOR PUBLIC HEALTH

The directorate is headed by a Director who is responsible for the sections that fall under the department. The sections that fall under the directorate are:

Inspectorate

• Cleansing/Waste Management

• Health Education

• Disease and Pest Control

• Funerals
Inspectorate Section Functions

Responsible for undertaking health inspections of variouspremises which include but not limited to business premises

(food and non food premises), public services, construction sites.

Health inspections are conducted in the areas of food safety,occupational health, mitigation of nuisances and infectious

diseases in order ensure quality of life of the communities;

ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

Cleansing/Waste Management Section

Responsible for the collection, transportation, storage and disposal of solid waste in order to ensure a clean and safe environment.

It is also responsible for street cleaning and removing debris and litter thereby keeping the street cleaning.

Responsible for conducting the Keep Kasama Clean, Green and Healthy programme.

Responsible for maintaining the Kasama Municipal Councilwaste disposal site.

Monitors services offered by waste management contractors.Parks and Gardens Unit

Responsible for maintaining the parks and gardens well kempt.
Health Education Section

Responsible for dissemination of health promotion materials in order to educate and sensitize the public on matters bordering on public health.

Encourages practices that support sanitation, promote good

practices such as proper waste disposal and pollution control.
Disease and Pest Control

Responsible for conducting safe and effective pest control activities targeting disease causing pests.

Prevent outbreaks caused by vectors e.g mosquitoes, rodents andcockroaches.

Provide services to residents and businesses to address infestations on demand at a fee.

Conducts dog registration and facilitates elimination of stray dogs and suspected rabid dogs.
Funerals Section

Responsible for managing of cemeteries and burial services inorder to ensure, safe and sanitary disposal of human remains.

Arranges and conducts burial of individuals with no known next

of kin (unclaimed bodies).

Processes paperwork for transfers of human remains in cases ofburial of body outside the district boundary
