THE DIRECTOR OF HOUSING AND SOCIAL SERVICES

The objective of the Department of Housing and Social Services is organizing and mobilizing communities and facilitating stakeholder participation in community development for effective social service delivery and utilization, provision of skills training, recreation and development of social amenities.

The department discharges its functions through specialized sections. These include Community Development, Library, Markets and Bus Stations, Settlement Improvements and Housing.

1.   Community Development Section

The main function of the section is to oversee the planning and coordination of

Community based Programs in the District.

1.   Provision of early childhood education: Coordinates effectively the provision of preschool programs in order to ensure early and adult education

2.   Community Centers; Coordinates effectively the administration of community centers in the District in order to ensure skills training is provided to the community

3.   Sports and Recreation: Coordinates effectively the provision of sports and recreation in order to ensure the wellbeing of the community 

2.   Library Section

The main function of the section is to manage library Services in the District in order to provide a conducive reading environment and information and knowledge sharing.

1.   Library Services: Managing effectively the provision of library services in order to create a conducive reading environment.

2.   Cataloguing: Managing effectively the cataloguing and indexing of library materials in order to safeguard the resources.

3.   Membership management: Managing effectively the registration and maintenance of the membership in order to sustain the operations of the library.

4.   Markets

The main function of the section is to manage and coordinate the administration of markets in order to improve their operations

1.   Stands and Stalls allocation: Managing effectively the allocation of market stands and stalls in the markets in order to ensure a conducive trading environment.

2.   Record Management: Managing effectively information on market stand and stalls in order to enhance operations and inform decision making.

3.   Market Maintenance: Managing effectively the maintenance of markets in order to improve their operations.

4.   Bus Stations

The main function of the section is to manage the administration of bus stations in order to facilitate ease mobility of the travelling public.

5.   Settlements Improvement

The main functions of the section are to manage the upgrading of unplanned settlements in order to improve the living standards of the community.

1.   Upgrading settlements: Managing effectively the upgrading programs in order to ensure development in unplanned settlements.

2.   Household registration: Managing effectively the registration of households in order to ensure availability of data in a particular settlement for decision making.

3.   Project proposal: Managing effectively the development of project proposals in settlements in order to access donor/Government funds for settlement development.

Housing

The main functions of the section are to manage and coordinate the provision of conventional housing and social services in order to improve the standard of living of the Community.

1.    Housing allocation and Information: Manages effectively the allocation of housing units and related information in order to accommodate and improve the living standards of the community.

2.   Housing Needs Assessment: Supervises and undertakes efficiently housing needs of the Community in order to provide information for decision making.
